Hi there, I'm Zelmia van Schalkwyk, your holistic coach. I'm here to help teachers thrive by prioritising teacher wellbeing and wellness. My goal is to support teachers to live a fulfilling and balanced life!

For four years, I worked diligently as a full-time teacher, but I found myself constantly exhausted. Even with a solid eight hours of sleep, I couldn't shake the feeling of fatigue. The passion and joy I once had for my job seemed to fade away because I was stretched too thin and not taking care of myself enough. I neglected my own mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, which made the already stressful school environment even harder to handle.
Rushing to meet deadlines and using my personal time at night and on weekends to keep up with work. Before each new term, I felt like I was already behind before even starting. It was a cycle that left me feeling overwhelmed and disconnected from what brought me into teaching in the first place. Something had to change.
I learned to incorporate meditation and mindfulness into my daily routine, which helped me manage stress by identifying my stressors. Setting boundaries and learning to say 'no' allowed me to achieve a better work-life balance and avoid burnout by the end of each term. This approach enabled me to use my holidays for activities I enjoyed, having managed myself effectively during the school term.
I began to see each day as an opportunity to engage in activities that brought me joy, rather than relying solely on weekends for rest. Changing my self-talk was crucial; I stopped feeling guilty about taking time to rest and embraced self-care as essential.
I approach my clients holistically, seeing each person as a whole with spiritual, physical, and emotional aspects all interconnected.

After my sessions, I have felt more organised and less guilty about making time for myself to practice meditation and journaling which I was surprised to enjoy. I have felt lighter and more open to new opportunities through her support and guidance. I’ve found more small joys in my daily life and I am excited to continue to work on myself with Zelmia.

Our session always feels like you’re just chatting with a friend you’ve known for years. She has a calm, compassionate, and encouraging manner and nothing is ever a problem for her. I was not sure what to expect from coaching as I had never done it before, however, I found the feedback and encouragement that Zelmia gave really helpful which held me accountable to reaching my goals. I have really enjoyed the journey and felt well supported along the way. Zelmia's compassionate nature made me feel comfortable to speak honestly and I felt safe and supported to delve into past traumas which helped me heal.
